Welcome to our new Campus Dining website! Stay tuned for all the latest dining news, info and events!

NEW dining hall renovation:

As part of our newly renovated dining hall, Dillard dining services is proud to announce our newest concept, My Kitchen:

Developed by students for students, “My Kitchen” is a platform that allows for multiple programming opportunities.  This platform ensures campus resident dining is never stale as we rotate from one great event to the next.  Features include Chef Spotlights, Recipes from Home Highlights, and an extension of the students’ campus residences.

In Chef Spotlights, a visiting chef uses this station as his or her performance platform, a veritable stage for the culinary arts.  Mirrors above and behind the chef illustrate their cooking techniques and a sound system with a headset microphone allows the chef to communicate effectively with the customers that surround the popular location.  For those students really interested in the action they need only choose one of the tall stools at the counter of this platform for their dining location.  All the action unfolds right in front of them.

Additionally, this platform can create a true classroom experience where students sign up to learn about the culinary arts from an industry professional.  Students are invited to learn about food safety, knife procedures, and basic cooking techniques.

This platform also allows us to test and feature “Recipes from Home.”  Using authentic recipes and ingredients, we test several recipes from students and/or their parents, affording all students to taste sample and to suggest we include on future local campus menus.  These recipe tests allows everyone to try something new that students have suggested or have been asking to be added to the menu, bringing a real sense to our listen and act menu process.  An easy interface on our campus website allows customers to submit their suggestions without trouble.

Finally, students are encouraged to reserve the space at designated times throughout the semester to entertain a group of friends or as a special event for a campus club or organization.  Selecting from a list of designated menu items, or by buying up to more premium entrées, students complete a short class on food safety.  When they arrive that evening the materials they need to prepare their meal are waiting for them.  An employee of the campus dining location is assigned as their sous chef for the duration of the meal to assist with cooking, mis en place, and clean up.  In short order, students will be clamoring to use this station for their next event.

“My Kitchen” is a great opportunity for Dillard University Dining Services to become part of the education process, teaching students how to serve food safely, how to have fun during the culinary process, and how to host an extraordinary event right in the middle of one of campus’ busiest locations.
